Refuel YXE - Signage Design and Collaborative Fabrication
Studio Jensen was commissioned to design branding and signage for Refuel restaurant in the secure area of YXE as part of a major airport expansion project designed by Kindrachuk Agrey Architecture.
The concept/design, woodworking, final assembly and finishing was done here at Studio Jensen, with the lit side being fabricated at Laser Impressions, Saskatoon.
Woodwork for the non-lit sides.
To save unnecessary masking and to ensure clean lines, the center was painted and varnished prior to the rest.
The lit side, once cut, is being fitted.
Here is the finished non-lit side with mating tongue installed - it now has has been fitted and tested, and is nearly ready to ship.
The finished sign arrives onsite and is ready to be lifted.
The lit side arrives and work begins fitting and finishing.
As patrons would be awaiting flights, we proposed the reverse side of the sign bid travelers ‘Bon Voyage’.
The next time you get a chance, be sure to walk through REFUEL, featuring an actual wing from a DeHavilland Otter aircraft above the bar and not one, but two tail sections of smaller planes serving as tables.
Refuel was presented with multiple design awards including Judges Choice at the Elevator’s Design Conference and an Honorable Mention Award at the Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Design.
